Rimac Concept_One to be used in Formula E

Rimac Automobili Concept One Formula E Race Director Car

Croatian supercar manufacturer Rimac Automobili is to supply one of its new Concept_One supercars to the FIA Formula E Championship.

The fully electric Concept_One, the newest player in the growing field of electric performance cars, will be used by Formula E’s Race Director for various on-track duties such as circuit inspections.

Much like the Formula E cars it will support, the Concept_One will go about its on-track duties while emitting no pollutants into the environment. The similarities don’t end there – the Concept_One also sprints from a standstill to 100km/h (60mph) in 2.8 seconds, the same time as a Formula E racing car.

The fully electric supercar also complements the spirit of Formula E by utilising a cocktail of exotic technologies in the pursuit of sheer speed and driving enjoyment at no cost to the planet. As such, it features regenerative braking, all-wheel drive, torque vectoring, a carbon fibre monocoque, advanced battery systems and more. Most excitingly, the car can use its 1008hp and 1600Nm of torque to selectively accelerate or decelerate its four driven wheels, giving it excellent handling and traction properties which are totally customisable.

Speaking about the new partnership, CEO of Rimac Automobili Mate Rimac said: “Racing has always been the driver of innovation. It is the reason for our very existence as Rimac Automobili was born as the result of my passion for racing and electronics. We believe that the Formula E series will be an incubator for thousands of innovations and technologies that will contribute to the adaptation of electric drivetrain technology in many applications.

“It only makes sense that a car that is truly embracing the possibilities of the technology takes part in the series – the Concept_One shows already today what tomorrow’s technology can do. Our strong partnership with the Formula E series is a unique opportunity to push the limits even further.”
