Formula E’s race start sound of the future

Formula E Futuristic Sound Donington Park

A video posted today on the official FIA Formula E Instagram page has given motorsport fans an idea of how a full grid of Spark-Renault electic racing cars will sound when launching away from a standing race start.

The short film features a number of Formula E cars practising a race start at Donington Park during this week’s first official pre-season test.

The sounds produced by the racing drivetrains are distinctly unique and futuristic, sounding like a blend of a radio-controlled toy car with a space ship from a science fiction movie.

The video provoked a mixed reaction from commenters on the social network. Some users were positive, declaring that they “couldn’t wait” for the season to begin. Others were not as convinced, calling the sound “dissatisfying” and “not good”.
