The running of Team China Racing will be bolstered by the experienced racing outfit Campos Racing, it has been announced. The Spain-based Campos squad will be in charge of the technical direction of the Chinese Formula E team.
Campos Racing has enjoyed success in various national and international single-seater categories, most notably winning the international GP2 series in 2008. Its newly announced Formula E responsibilities will be managed alongside its current campaigns in the European F3 Open Championship, GP2 and World Touring Car Championship (WTCC).
The agreement means that Campos Racing team principal Adrian Campos, an ex-Formula One driver, will become the team manager of China Racing, with current team principal Steven Lu retaining his current duties.
China Racing is the only Formula E team not to have yet signed any drivers, with ex-Formula One ace Jerome d’Ambrosio and GT-class racers Antonio Garcia and Juan Manuel Lopez all having represented the team at Formula E’s Donington Park test days. Campos Racing has confirmed that it will soon be finalising its driver pairing for the upcoming Formula E season.
Jerome d’Ambrosio has been particularly vocal about his desires to represent the Chinese team in the all-electric series, as he explained earlier.
With less than two months to go until Formula E’s first race on September 13th, the driver announcement can’t come soon enough.
